Burial & Four Tet - Wolf Cub
Really wanted to wait until the 12” was actually in my hands before listening but I couldn’t help it. Burial’s first output in over a year has him teaming up with Four Tet; two producers that shared the same London high school and eventually the same sonic alien leanings. Remember before Burial unmasked and some thought he was Four Tet?
‘Wolf Cub’ starts with about 2 and half minutes of Four Tet laying some fluttering groundwork before Burial’s trademark woodblock punishments reset the piece and start steamrolling. On the flip, “Moth” sounds like a better realization of whatever Thom Yorke was trying to do with “The Eraser” with a slick 4/4 bounce and warmer synth’s. Both tracks hover at around 9 minutes letting them marinate long enough for the ‘deeper’ kind of bassweight familiar with a Skull Disco or Apple Pips tune. Jaws hit the floor.
In order to get this under that 10mb threshold I had to compress the shit out of an already questionable .mp3 rip so the quality here is a miserable 128kbp/s. I’d say pick up the vinyl but it’s sold out everywhere. Start digging.
